Christchurch Cathedral stands as the symbol of Christchurch – the very heart and soul of the city! It has the same symbolism to the city as the Harbour Bridge to Sydney and the Eiffel tower to Paris. It transends denomination and belongs to all the people. I find the proposal to demolish the cathedral unbelievable and the
attitude of the Anglican authorities shortsighted and unworthy of their forebears. I wish those who are fighting to have the cathedral restored every success and trust that it will remain as a house of prayer for all people and a living symbol of the rebirth of Christchurch. Aussie from Sydney.

I would like to see Christchurch Cathedral remain and restored to it’s former glory. I was visiting Christchurch two weeks ago and I was also there in 2011. In 2011, the cathedral was off-limits, but I saw it most recently and I was amazed to see most of it intact. I would be saddened to see this iconic structure go. The people of Christchurch have lost enough – they don’t need to lose anymore. My Grandfather was born in this city in 1902 and whenever we come to New Zealand, from Australia, it’s the Cathedral that unites us with our past – our ancestors. Please save it.
