One more observation. Granted the bell tower came down, but the rest of the building looks quite intact.
The Bishop objects to the high cost of restoration.
Recall when the woman anointed Jesus with precious oil. To objections to this, Jesus said, : “the poor you will always have”
but you wont always have me. Don’t be parsimonious when honoring the Lord.
If the Cathedral is torn down, the Earthquake Wins !

William Shepards comments of Feb 2 don’t hold much sway.
Christ’s greatest outreach was out amongst the people,NOT from the the sanctuary of the temple.
When Christ went out to the house of the Tax Collector,(not from in the temple,) Zacheus’ whole household was saved.
When he spoke to the woman at the well,(out where she was),her whole village was saved
and He met their needs the most out in their homes and villages,
